Training
Training is essential on Equinox to unlock a horse’s full potential.
Every horse starts with base stats, but through consistent riding and jumping, they can improve dramatically over time. The system is realistic and age-based, with performance peaks, gradual decline, and trait progression tied to levels.
🕒 Training & Age
Horse training is influenced by age. Horses learn and improve fastest during their peak training years, and training efficiency declines over time.
Peak Training Ages: Horses train best between the following age brackets: 4–7 years → Fastest progression 7–10 years → Moderate progression 10+ years → Slower progression
Training Slowdown: After age 12, a 5% performance decline occurs each year, simulating aging effects and decreasing performance returns.
📈 Levelling System
Horses level up through active use—riding and jumping. As they level, they unlock new capabilities and lose negative traits:
Level 5 – Unlocks first discipline
Level 20 – Removes first bad trait
Level 35 – Removes second bad trait
Level 50 – Removes third bad trait
Level 75 – Unlocks second discipline
Level 150 – Unlocks third discipline
Levels are earned progressively through consistent activity and performance.
🐎 Training Speed
Riding directly affects your horse’s speed:
For every 10 minutes of riding at a specific gait, the horse gains between 0.14–0.27 mph in that gait, depending on age and training conditions.
You’ll gain more when training during peak age windows, especially from ages 4 to 7.
🦘 Training Jumping
Jumping helps improve your horse’s jump height, but only when performed with precision.
For every 75 perfect jumps (landing in the orange bar of the jump meter), the horse gains between 0.07–0.14 ft in jump height.
Consistency and timing are key to progression.
